- Happy Labor Day! I hope that you all enjoyed your L-O-N-G weekend. I hope it was filled with sunshine, fun, football, and family! We're counting down the days until our big Jekyll Island trip. We have several parents from our class attending. I can assure you that the students will be very well supervised! We are still looking for a doctor or nurse to accompany us on our trip to administer medication and provide onsite minor medical care should it be needed. Please notify me if you are interested.

Reading-
This week we'll continue to read our novels in class. Each student will create his/her own vocabulary list and answer comprehension questions in complete sentences.
Garola's homeroom- Chapters 7 and 8 in The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau
Brown's homeroom- Chapters 8, 9, and 10 in Number the Stars by Lois Lowry
Speir's homeroom - Chapters 7 and 8 in Ersatz's Elevator by Lemony Snicket
Language-
I'm so proud of the students. We've been practicing in class daily and almost all of them can recite the helping and being verbs at an impressive rate! Once they feel that they can recite them orally, they can do it for me in class for an oral quiz grade! Many of them have already done so.
- This week we'll cover verb tenses and irregular verbs. There's a lengthy list of irregular verbs and verb forms in the Language book. We'll look over the list on Tuesday. I've divided it into 5 groups. The students will need to review one section of the chart each evening this week. They'll have a short fill in the blank quiz that looks exactly like the chart each day beginning on Wednesday. This shouldn't take a lot of time, but it will be very valuable to have it memorized for the rest of 5th grade and 6th.
- We plan to complete pages 16-22 in the Language book.
