Reading: This week we'll be learning and reviewing standardized test taking strategies for reading. We'll be focusing mostly on comprehension and vocabulary. We'll talk about strategies like reading the questions prior to reading the passage. We'll also learn about using context clues to figure out vocabulary and eliminating incorrect answers.
We'll be reading for 20 minutes each day in class. Each day the students are expected to fill out a reading log entry at the end of class. I'll be assigning 15 minutes or reading homework on Tuesday and Thursday this week. The only way I can be sure the student's have completed the reading homework is by checking the reading log for a short entry along with parent initials. Please be sure you sign your student's reading log on Tuesday and Wednesday evening to ensure they'll receive full points homework.
Language: Unit 8 Punctuation
This week we'll be covering use of colon, semicolon, and reviewing direct quotations. Our test will be on Friday of this week. Students will highlight the sections in the Language book that will be covered on the test. We'll review for the test in class as well.
Writing: This week we're working on writing a book report using our independent reading books.
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns!
Thanks! Mandy Garola
